Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary
Pobitora is a wildlife sanctuary on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra in Morigaon district. It consist of at least 15 grass species and it provides habitat and food resource for the Indian rhinoceros, hosting Assam’s second largest population.The other mammals found there are Golden Jackal, Wild Boar and feral water buffalo.Barking Deer, Indian Leopard and rhesus Macaque live foremost in the hilly areas and home to over 2000 migratory birds , and also over 375 species of birds and various reptiles.The nearest waterbody to Pobitora is Chandubi Lake which is a serene freshwater lake nestled amidst tea gardens and hills. It offers a peaceful and scenic environment, perfect for boating, fishing, picnicking and also attracts a lot of migratory birds during winter.
